The Karalee on Preston beer venue review
The Karalee is an absolute institution for Como locals and has been going strong since 1975. It is popular amongst the local residents, families and a regular meeting place for people visiting from country WA.
The Karalee is located on top of the hill on Preston Street, with nice views over the Swan River. It is housed within the IGA complex, with a bottle shop next door and plenty of parking out the front and underneath. It is split into three sections: restaurant with table service, bar & casual dining and an outdoor area.
The staff at Karalee
The Karalee are blessed to have a long term, top-notch team, that really set this place apart. The service is always friendly and attentive, and you can tell the regulars have a real connection with the staff, which is missing from a lot of locals these days. These guys are a real asset and a big reason why locals have been coming here for 40+ years for a casual drink, to watch sport on the big screens or to grab a great meal.
The only thing that can beat the fantastic service, is the food. The Karalee’s menu is full of your pub grub favourites, along with some unique options, including vegan and gluten-free. What makes it stand out, is EVERYTHING IS DONE AWESOMELY. Now we are not just talking about the award-winning steak sandwich, which has won multiple awards in the past few years. People regularly travel for this steak sandwich, so yes, please try it…
But then go back – because there are loads of other great options, from the Chicken Casalinga (crumbed chicken with a delicious mushroom sauce), Crispy Pork Belly, Thai Beef Salad and Perfectly Cooked Chilli Mussels. There is also a specials board which has a rotation of fish of the day, soups, homemade dips and seasonal options.
Beer? Wine? They have it all!
Now I know this is a Beer website, so let’s talk about the wine list. Ok Ok, The Karalee has a rotating selection of local craft beers on tap, so in any given month you will see the likes of Blasta Brewing, Otherside, Feral (Biggy Juice Baby!), Boston Brewing and more. Some of the regulars include Swanny D, Single Fin, Kilkenny, Furphy, Rogers, Heineken and Blue Moon.
They also pour one of the best Guinness’ on tap in Perth along with my personal favourite before the footy, Magners on tap or in pint bottles.
Not that anyone’s asking, but there is an excellent wine list with a mainly Aussie focus and a few cool interesting additions from France and NZ. Thursday nights are $10 cocktail night and they are always adding some interesting seasonal cocktails, so check them out.
The Karalee on Preston pub is the perfect mix of family-friendly and casual meeting places, making it ideal for locals and anyone willing to travel for a great meal, good service and a relaxed pub atmosphere.

If you don’t believe us, just ask local Como legend and now international internet celebrity Ozzy Man Reviews:
“One of the most reliable pubs around. The food menu is gold. Whatever you order is fair dinkum great. In fact, the food menu is like that rare kind of music album where every song on the album is awesome. It’s the Radiohead OK Computer of pub food menus, it’s Pearl Jam’s Ten, it’s The Living Ends self titled debut— you get the idea. It’s a pub that cares about what it does. Gold!”
