Matso’s Broome Brewery brewery review
A visit to Matso’s, the most remote brewery in Australia, is a must on any trip to Broome. The chilled tropical styling and coastal location give you holiday vibes and set the tone for an enjoyable evening out. There is a small amount of indoor seating in the bar with more tables on the expansive balcony and an outdoor area that rivals any beer garden I have ever seen. As soon as the sun goes down, the festoon lighting adds to the atmosphere and the live music draws in the crowds.
The Matso’s beer range
Matso’s is probably best known for their unconventional flavours with the Mango and Ginger beers being their flagship staples.
They have added Angry Ranga (chilli and ginger) and Chango (chilli and mango) to their range and these were worth a try even if purely for the interest factor. I would recommend grabbing a tasting paddle so you can try a few different flavours! Two very recent additions are not beers, but sweet premix style beverages, Hard Berry and Hard Melon. They are both naturally brewed with real fruit and will quench a thirst brought on by the warm Broome weather.
Hint: add a shot of vodka and a wedge of lime to the Hard Melon for an easy and delicious cocktail!
The food menu
Matso’s have a very extensive menu, with different offerings available for breaky, lunch and dinner plus a range of share plates. My partner and I shared the Chorizo & Cheese Croquettes and the Tuna Tempura Board, both of which were delicious and beautifully presented. The service was fantastic, the staff were all very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to explain the menu and drinks offerings.
Popular with tourists and locals, Matso’s is consistently busy so ensure you make a booking if you wish to dine as the waiting time for a table can be quite long. Brewery tours are returning soon, so keep that in mind for your visit!
